Friday Finish

I finally got the quilting done on By The Bay, a row along hosted by Fun Threads Designs running from October 2014 - May 2015. I didn't do the crab row, it was applique and I wasn't feeling it and I passed on the borders as well, so mine is a good deal smaller than it should be.  I did sew the rows I finished together and it has been neatly folded on my flimsy shelf since last summer...until this week :)
It finished at 46" x 39" and I quilted it with straight lines, nothing fancy.  I wanted to do the binding in orange, thought I had enough but didn't, so used the background fabric for binding.  AFTER it was finished, I found the piece of orange I KNEW I had.  LOL  That's what I get for organizing ;)

Wednesday Again :)

This week I got the 'above and below' rectangles cut and blocks sewn together for Star Light Star Dark, hosted by Jessica at Quilty Habit.  Nice big blocks, mine are 26" x 24", that are great for showing off fabrics.  My Star Light Star Dark will be a bed runner :)  The star point shadows on the yellow block are from the block under it ;)  I have no clue why the color of the cork is so different from picture to picture, they were taken with the same camera one after another.

I've also been keeping up with the 100 Blocks 100 Days Instagram fun using Tula Pink's book, City Sampler. Blocks 1 2 & 3 I blogged about on Friday.  Here are my blocks 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8.  Wonky little blocks, but they'll be fine when they're sewn together.  I cut them out in the evening, then sew them together after my morning walk.  Nice little routine that sets me up for the rest of the day :)

BOMs Away Monday 08/22

Dear Daughter, Chapter 8 is the last block of my August BOMs and with just the words to embroider I'm almost done.  Oh,  and a bit of applique...unless I don't ;)   I think for the first time, I'm actually following the pattern for the words (Have Courage), it's just easier than trying to come up with my own.  The finish for this one is going to be for my granddaughter, Penny Lane and she's only 7 (a week shy of) so I was trying to keep the words simple.  Of all the Chapters so far, this one is my least favorite... I just don't get on well with little pieces so the end result is wonky and I'll be losing a LOT of points, but with Penny, it's all about the color, so her beautiful eyes will be sparkling with all  the purples :)

A Finish - A Start - A Win :)

While enjoying a little shopping therapy at Atlantic Fabrics last weekend my sister picked up a Fat Quarter of Northern Lights fabric and asked for a cushion cover for her bed.  Easy enough to whip up, I used the tutorial for the August Sugar Block Club for the center block and followed Made by ChrissieD's tutorial for a hidden zipper and some blues from my stash.  Simple quilting and it was done :)

Yesterday, while reading the blogs I came across a post about 100 Days 100 Blocks, hosted by Gnome Angel (and others)  using the book Tula Pink's City Sampler and meant to be a bit of fun on Instagram. I was able to get the Kindle version at Amazon so decided to join in even though I was a day late and already out of contention for prizes and the sewing machine prize is only open to Australia, but it's all fun and for me, a chance to work on my 1/4" seam making 6" blocks ~~~eek~~~.

And the Win :)  On August 2,  I was contacted about my win for Rainbow Rose at  Modern Quilters Ireland, an awesome gift specially collated in Japan by Tomomi of Slaney Handcraft!  With some emails back and forth (I wanted to insure that I understood if the cost of shipping to Canada was too steep) my address was given and on August 11 my generous package arrived from Ireland.  What a great sewing/quilting world we are a part of today :)

BOMs Away Monday August 15

The last of my BOMs for August is Shenandoh for the Sugar Block Club hosted by Stichery Dickory Dock.  I liked this block, not sure why particularly, but enough to do a second one for a cushion cover for my sister (I'll share that on Friday).  I'm going to use my Sugar Block Club blocks to make valances for my upstairs windows (hall, fun room and pass thru between the two, which is really just a hole in the wall created to give a little more light in my fun room).

The August Row for Quilt Doodle Designs ROM is 5 Santa Faces.  I went with all different fabrics for the hats and since I had all the previous rows nicely sewn together, I sewed the Santa's together too.  However, after taking a closer look at the picture of the quilt, I now realize that there is sashing meant to be between the blocks... and little windmills/peppermint look alikes.  My finish won't have either ;)  I really should READ more and not just look and sew.  One more Row and the borders for this one, so it should be done for Christmas.  Ha Ha Ha, maybe NEXT Christmas ;)
