Wild Babies BOM & 365 Challenge

Three days of sewing  and January's block for Wild Babies is done!  Sewing 36 units of 3 to 11 pieces takes A LOT of organization.  When I'm working on a paper pieced project I set my sewing corner up differently so tend to just chug along until I'm done.  It can be tedious and I sometimes find my mind wandering to other blocks/projects I have in the wip pile.  I stuck with it and oh my, this little Koala is too cute!  It finished at 15 1/2" x 15 1/2", a bit smaller than the pattern because of the calibration of the printer on this side of the pond.   I think it will be a wall hanging... or maybe a large cushion.
'Wild Babies' is a free-for-the-month BOM hosted by Janeen at Quilt Art Designs.  I love her patterns, but they are involved.  Worth the effort though :)

I waffled about doing the 365 Challenge, 3" blocks make me cringe and 6" blocks aren't my favorite either, but after doing 100 Days 100 Blocks I decided to give it a go.  It's a repeat of the 2016 Challenge, which I started and gave up on (I think I only did 3 blocks), and it's free (via a daily email link to the blocks) .  There are prizes, but I'm not sure how one enters to win, I just like sewing, sharing and moving on :)  Instagram is great for that.  This year, I've managed to keep on track so far... 18 - 3" blocks in 18 days.  Most of them are not done on the day, I tend to do two or three at a sitting.  This morning, after sewing the Koala units together I sewed Block 17 and 18.

17 - Thrifty

18 Double Four Patch

1 - 18

Wednesday Catch Up

A few mornings spent in my England 'Fun Room' and ta da, some blocks to share :)  I got the first two blocks of 182 Day Solstice Challenge done.  Lovely 12" blocks to get me back in the groove. Just in time for block 3, due to be released today :)
Block 1/25 Churndash

Block 2/25 Dark Into Light

January's Paper Piecing Vintage, The King's Crows, was a bit more of a challenge... not sure if it was the size (I decided to do the 6" version) or rushing too much.  Either way, it's not the prettiest star I've done.
Red being my January Color of the Month, I dug into my red scraps for this one.

The King's Crows

My 'Word for 2017' is Colors.  I used two 'color of the month' colors for each paper pieced letter.  The letter patterns are from Elm Street Quilts' Chunky Alphabet , though I cheated a bit to save having to print too many unused letters and turned a u into an o and an i into an l.  "Colors" is my first finish of 2017 :)

Wednesday Catch Up

The middle of the week rolls around again and I've been getting some sewing done, thanks to a trip to Midsomer Quilting (for some fabric) on Saturday and a Sew Thankful Sunday post on The Crafty Quilter (for some wonderful Christmas shares).  The project I jumped on is Merry and Bright, designed and hosted by Jen Daly Quilts.  Great tutorials every other day and lovely results.

 Day 2 = 7  Ornaments

Day 3 = 6 Trees

Day 4 =  6 Gifts

Friday Finishes...

A couple of finishes, both done before I traveled from Canada to England.  The first one was to test the December 'Wanderlust' pattern for Janeen at Quilt Art Designs.  I had no problem agreeing to do the CN Tower block :)   Paper Piecing is still a very time consuming project for me, I enjoy doing them, but they sure don't clip along at a pace.  There are a lot of start/stop moments.  Because of that, I only managed to get two of the 12 months done for Wanderlust... January and December, both are now wall hangings left at home.  I have the rest saved and hope to get to them... but you know how things go in the quilting world, there is always a 'gotta do' around the corner.
No pictures of the CN Tower hanging on the wall... I forgot to take one before leaving :)

The second finish is a small table topper I made and brought with me.  I followed a pattern in one of the magazines I have at home... of course I forget which one and didn't bring it with me.  I wasn't sure about the size so was well pleased that it ended up being perfect for the table on this side of the pond.
